2014 Oscar’s Laundry: The Brights & The Darks | 3.6.14

Let’s be honest, sometimes we have a smaller load than normal and we mix a couple the darks and the brights. Welcome to today’s post. We are wrapping up our 2014 Oscar’s Review with a mixture of the brights & the darks!

My main girl Sandy wowed in Navy. It’s a versatile shade of blue. If you want to keep it off your walls, throw a spotlight on the deep hue with a sturdy sofa.

J.Law is my spirit animal. And this year at the Academy Awards, she continued her tradition of tripping and looking spectacular. Red is a bold statement. Add a little bit into a space to see if you like the color (as opposed to say, painting the whole room). Sometimes a little bit goes a lot farther.

Olivia Wilde is talented, gorgeous and she makes such a pretty preggo. I love her choice of black and white. It is elegant, simple and sophisticated. Translate this look in to your home by balancing the black & white with warm wood tones in caramel & mahogany,

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t that much of a fan of this dress when I first saw it on TV. And it’s not that much of a stunner in photos. But when Annie walked out on stage, you really got the full effect. This dress is something special and deceptively gorgeous. Punch up a dark spot in your home with some sparkle!

Fashion To Front Room: Oscar’s Redux | 3.3.14

To know me is to love me. And to love me is to accept me and all my quirks. One of my many quirks is my love of the Hollywood award season and there is no show bigger than the Oscars. I am fully aware that it is a room full of privileged people congratulating themselves all night. But I like to consider that a quirk. And to love something is to accept it. (see what I did there….)

In honor of last night’s show, I want to start out my Oscar celebration with a celebration of some of my favorite looks from the past years of the Academy Awards.

I want to start with Michele Williams from 2006. I don’t know the designer because I don’t care, but I will never forget the statement she made in this gorgeous goldenrod. It’s a rich & buttery color, and it sang in the spotlight of the red carpet. Don’t be afraid to put this color on display in your own home!

Penelope Cruz was an absolute stunner in this saccharine tight & fluffy number in 2007. I honestly thought she was a princess. And this was the thought of a 24 year old woman. But can you blame me?

Say what you want about Miss Anne Hathaway (i will say that I LOVE her), but her 2009 column dress of slightly sparkly Ivory awesomeness is a picture of grace and timelessness. And considering that ivory and metallic shine are classic neutrals, it’s a lesson you can take to your wardrobe and your home.

And there’s something to be said about being bold & beautiful in such a simple silhouette. I adore Jen in this red number and I think it’s another testament to the beauty of classic colors/pieces/silhouettes. There’s a reason they’re called classics!

So there you have it. My favorite looks and an idea for how to use it in your home. More Oscar goodies coming up this week, including a celebration of last night’s looks and my favorite Oscar winner looks (as it turns out, no winners in the above list).

Are you a fan of the Oscars?

Design Files: Dreaming of Spring | 2.5.14

I can’t help it. As another 6-8 inches of snow falls down on me, all I can think about is “it’s February. February is only 4 short weeks. Then it’s March and sometime in March it usually starts to warm up. Soooo… only a few more weeks. Practically there…” This winter has been hell and I have to keep my eye on Spring or I’m going to curl up in the abyss of snow in my backyard and cry.

I feel warmer already.

Is that…. Is that a road clear of salt & snow that I see??

You mean I don’t need 57 layers to go outside??

And just like that, spirits are lifted and I’m happy (and warm). At least until the next time I look out the window….

Are you a snow bunny or are you just as excited as I am for Spring???

Happy hump day!

9 Million Reasons Why I Love Wallpaper | 10.24.13

Ok so maybe not 9 million. More like 9 gorgeous examples of wallpaper killing it. This is not your grandmother’s wallpaper. Or your mother’s. I’m talking about wallpaper that has modern colors & patterns, is paintable and easily removable (think: like a sticker). I’m hoping I change some minds with this post…

What I’m Watching: Breaking Bad | 10.17.13

I know, I know. Breaking Bad has ended its run. And what a magnificent run it was. If you haven’t watched the series or aren’t through yet, please watch – it is an incredible show! No spoilers here though – this post is all about the inspiration from the mood, set and the costumes of the show.

Breaking Bad was intense but charming. It was family-centric (in its drug empire kind of way). It had relatable characters who often had to deal with very real consequences for their actions. And being set in the Albuquerque desert town provided some spectacular southwestern scenery!
