Table Top: Easter | 04.18.14

Happy Spring & happy (almost) Easter! It’s a beautiful time of year to celebrate with the ones we love. I present, for your consideration, a collection of table top ideas for dressing your dining table this weekend (or any day you might fancy this Spring)!

Table Top: Easter | Spring Tablescape Ideas | Linzeelu Thank You

Strike the right chord with a vibrant blend of Spring colors (cobalt & coral, anyone?), and keep it balanced with crisp white and barely-notice-you-but-still-need-you clear.

Clean and simple is always classic. Simple lines in muted earth tones keep things feeling sophisticated and chic.

Inject some whimsy – use an eclectic mix of dishes to play up the fun. Keep it all in the same color family to keep it cohesive.

Go glam with drama – keep the palette simple with basic black and white (with a touch of green of course) but play up height & proportion.

Run with a rustic style – add wood elements (planter boxes or charger plates, etc), vintage or thrifted dishes and plenty of laid back vibes.

bluesy | simple | eclectic | glam | rustic

Whatever your style & whatever you are celebrating, I hope it’s all filled with love and laughter. Some of the best times are those relaxed moments around the dinner table with friends, family, wine, memories and laughs.

How do you decorate for Spring?

Wanderlust 03: Paris | 4.16.14

There are few things I love more in this world than traveling. The sights, the culture, the adventure of it all. It’s thrilling and exhausting and satisfying. But when there is neither time nor money for the biggest dreamed adventures, there’s wanderlust.

03. Paris [in Springtime]

There’s no place in the world I’d rather see and no time of year I’d rather see it. I dream about it all year round, but most of all in the spring. In lieu of seeing it in person, I take inspiration from the sunlight-filtered colors of Spring and the vibrant storefront shades.

I will make it there someday. Until then, I can only dream. And take recommendations! Any can’t miss spots? Favorite cafe or bistro? Must visits?

Happy Wednesday – half way there!

Fashion To Front Room: Oscar’s Redux | 3.3.14

To know me is to love me. And to love me is to accept me and all my quirks. One of my many quirks is my love of the Hollywood award season and there is no show bigger than the Oscars. I am fully aware that it is a room full of privileged people congratulating themselves all night. But I like to consider that a quirk. And to love something is to accept it. (see what I did there….)

In honor of last night’s show, I want to start out my Oscar celebration with a celebration of some of my favorite looks from the past years of the Academy Awards.

I want to start with Michele Williams from 2006. I don’t know the designer because I don’t care, but I will never forget the statement she made in this gorgeous goldenrod. It’s a rich & buttery color, and it sang in the spotlight of the red carpet. Don’t be afraid to put this color on display in your own home!

Penelope Cruz was an absolute stunner in this saccharine tight & fluffy number in 2007. I honestly thought she was a princess. And this was the thought of a 24 year old woman. But can you blame me?

Say what you want about Miss Anne Hathaway (i will say that I LOVE her), but her 2009 column dress of slightly sparkly Ivory awesomeness is a picture of grace and timelessness. And considering that ivory and metallic shine are classic neutrals, it’s a lesson you can take to your wardrobe and your home.

And there’s something to be said about being bold & beautiful in such a simple silhouette. I adore Jen in this red number and I think it’s another testament to the beauty of classic colors/pieces/silhouettes. There’s a reason they’re called classics!

So there you have it. My favorite looks and an idea for how to use it in your home. More Oscar goodies coming up this week, including a celebration of last night’s looks and my favorite Oscar winner looks (as it turns out, no winners in the above list).

Are you a fan of the Oscars?

Celebrate Love! Happy Valentine’s Day | 2.14.14

Don’t give me no crap about hating Valentine’s Day this or Hallmark Holiday that. I don’t want to hear it. Cut that out. Single or attached, male or female, Valentine’s Day is simple: a chance to celebrate love. You don’t have to be in a relationship. You don’t have to buy all sorts of mushy-lovey-dovey junk or shell out big bucks for big blooms. You just need to celebrate the beautiful thing that is LOVE. There is someone in this world that loves you: a spouse, a sibling, a parent, a friend. There is someone in this world that you love: comrade, boo, pet, yourself. Whoever it is, whatever it is, just celebrate it! Love is a beautiful thing and too often it’s taken for granted or allowed to get comfortable. Today is the day to grab it, shake it out, and throw it a party. So just STFU if you’re one of those who thinks you need a boyfriend or a present today. All you need baby, is love.

Buuuut if you do want to grab a little sumthin-sumthin, here’s a few fun ideas (because this is a blog, not just a soapbox).

valentine's day: treat yourself

Why not show ourselves a little love, amirite??

valentine's day: spoil your best gal

Best friend or girlfriend, show your best gal a little love with something sweet or something sparkly!

valentine's day: mad about mom

Mom. auntie, grandmom or godmom, there’s a fierce female in your life who has had your back and loves you so. Throw a little love right back at her!

valentine's day: gifting a gent

And we all know a great guy that could use a little reminder of how we think he’s the bee’s knees!

So skip the presents (or not) and celebrate. Send an email or (gasp!) call someone and wish them a Happy Valentine’s Day. Love is a powerful thing. Celebrate it today!

Design Files: Dreaming of Spring | 2.5.14

I can’t help it. As another 6-8 inches of snow falls down on me, all I can think about is “it’s February. February is only 4 short weeks. Then it’s March and sometime in March it usually starts to warm up. Soooo… only a few more weeks. Practically there…” This winter has been hell and I have to keep my eye on Spring or I’m going to curl up in the abyss of snow in my backyard and cry.

I feel warmer already.

Is that…. Is that a road clear of salt & snow that I see??

Design Files: Dreaming of Spring | Linzeelu Thank You

You mean I don’t need 57 layers to go outside??

And just like that, spirits are lifted and I’m happy (and warm). At least until the next time I look out the window….

Are you a snow bunny or are you just as excited as I am for Spring???

Happy hump day!

What I’m Watching: Dexter| 10.3.13

I love a lot of different TV shows for a lot of different reasons. Welcome to What I’m Watching; a series that compares the moods & scenes of shows I like with fashion and interior design. Dexter recently wrapped up it’s final season (no spoilers ahead), and I’m sad to see it go, but despite the intense moods, there is such a flavor and spice to the set and wardrobe! It’s bright and colorful and criminal.
